National Highways
We’re the government company which plans, designs, builds, operates and maintains England’s motorways and major A-roads, known as the strategic road network (SRN). Our priorities are safety, customers and delivery.
We want everyone who uses and works on our roads to get home safe and well. By planning and designing roads that meet the highest levels of safety, we can reduce the number of fatal or serious injuries.
Our roads connect the country and with more than four million journeys taking place daily, our roads play a vital part in many people’s lives. Since 2015 we’ve invested billions in new routes and extra capacity. We also plan and manage a programme of works to make sure our roads, and the various structures along them, are safe.
We recognise the roadside rescue and recovery industry as an essential service. You play an important part in the day-to-day operation of England’s motorways and major A roads, by attending and recovering broken down or damaged vehicles so that we can keep traffic moving.
