Shawbrook’s long-standing dedication to the industry remains strong and its passion for recovery reflects that of its clients.
For over twenty years, Shawbrook’s Asset Finance team has immersed itself in the recovery market. During that time, other lenders have come and gone, or put their focus elsewhere, but Shawbrook has remained committed. The industry has changed dramatically over that time and now operators are under more pressure from more directions than ever before. New legislation such as emission zones; the changing demands from motoring groups and associations; and the increasingly competitive market means that operators need to work their equipment harder and smarter.
Operating at the heart of the industry
At Shawbrook, we understand just how hard operators work and how important their specialist vehicles are to them. We know that when new legislation, like emission zones, is introduced, compulsory vehicle upgrades are necessary – this is something over which operators have no control, but they must comply in order to continue doing their jobs. We understand that the fleet is an operator’s pride and joy and that when it comes to it, the body of the vehicle is more important than the chassis – and can last many more years. We recognise the longevity of recovery industry assets and the meticulous manner in which these vehicles are maintained, subsequently the majority of large recovery assets maintain that “new look” for a considerable period compared to other commercial vehicles on our roads. We recognise this when we are funding assets considered older than the norm. We have this level of understanding because we interact regularly and personally with every one of our clients across the country, and have done so for over two decades.
This constant interaction with operators has given us a unique insight into the mind-set of those who work in the industry, and has given us enormous respect for them. This has helped us maintain our consistent level of support for the industry, particularly when times have been tough and other lenders have been thin on the ground.
Because we believe in recovery, we are happy to be flexible and appreciate that it’s not a nine-to-five sector. The finance we provide is therefore flexible accordingly. We can structure deals according to business needs, for example structuring that allows for seasonal work variation or for a new stipulation by a motoring group.
Shawbrook to the rescue
We are a traditional funder and proud of it. We principally provide hire purchase, lease finance and sale and leaseback. We believe that these offerings meet the key demands of the industry. We also firmly believe in the human touch. All of our underwriting is done by people, rather than taking a tick-box approach – we deal with each of our customers personally, putting emphasis on building solid relationships over years, rather than looking for a quick deal.
These relationships enable us to offer more to our clients than just finance. We see our role as a partner, adding value to a business and helping it grow – after all, the more a business flourishes, the more we can support it. This partnership is key to our approach, which is why you’ll find our representatives talking to operators about their business model, just as much as the loan.
Towing the line
We are committed to the industry and our presence at the Tow Show is a reflection of this. As the largest recovery show in the UK, we consider the Tow Show to be a key forum at which to meet operators. Shawbrook Asset Finance works across many industry sectors and we are in demand at events around the country, but the Tow Show is always at the top of our list. This has led us to attend every year and we are proud to have been the main sponsor for the last three years.
Equally, the Tow Show is the ideal place for operators to get to know us better. We gather together our team, who are usually out on the road all over the country, and would really encourage operators to take advantage of this opportunity to meet everyone and come to visit us on the Shawbrook stand.
This year, for the first time we are hosting a series of seminars intended to give operators support in key areas that will impact their business. Part of the reason for doing this is to demonstrate our commitment and continuing desire to help them develop their own businesses. ‘The Dedicated to Recovery, Committed to Growth’ seminars will cover subjects such as health and safety and finance to help grow your business.
We hope this will provide a great forum for operators to have any questions answered and to spark future conversations.
The Shawbrook sessions will be run by Karl Kirkpatrick, regional manager for the North of England at Shawbrook Asset Finance. We hope that these seminars will be useful for the operators and look forward to seeing many familiar faces (and new ones) at the show.
